A traffic light post in the city of Izmir, Turkey, has attracted the focus of many passersby and it has a beautiful story behind it.
A mother dove decided to build her nest on top of the traffic light in a busy intersection in the city about a year ago. Because the spot was so busy, it attracted the interest of a lot of locals, one of which was veterinarian Hakan Erdoğan.
After happily observing the mother dove from far at first, Erdoğan managed a much better facility for her.
A few months ago, coincidentally, Erdoğan had saved a baby dove who had fallen from another nest. He was unable to return the baby to the nest, so he immediately thought of the mother dove from the traffic light. Then, he decided to place the baby in her nest.
“She accepted it;” Erdoğan said “She looked after her until she was old enough to fly away. It was fantastic.”
Because the mother dove accepted his first rescued baby dove, Erdoğan brought another baby dove to the bird, and she adopted this one again.
Only a few people other than Erdoğan and his colleagues knew about the bird. But then, something amazing happened.
An umbrella had been installed above the traffic light where the bird had its nest. Apparently, a kind person, who Erdoğan didn’t know, had done that, evidently for the bird’s facility.
No one noticed the umbrella being installed there; however, the person’s intention of protecting the bird was clear. That was when the traffic light post started getting famous.
Ever since then, many Turkish news outlets have reported about the dove and the umbrella. It shows how simple things done by us can change someone’s life so much. SO, Erdoğan hopes this will be a lesson for everyone to be kind.
“I want this kind of event to be a model for everyone,” he told Anadolu Agency. “It’s a human event.”
Erdoğan recently noticed that the dove is going to be a mother again, soon and her own two babies will be chirping on the nest in no time.
