Incurable disease is always heartbreaking, especially when little children suffer from it. Making them feel better is always tricky and strange. But Emma Mertens, a 7-year-old girl suffering from brain tumour, knew exactly what she needed.
She wanted letters from dogs all over the world.
When her brain tumour was first diagnosed, her family members were predictably devastated. But it was she who had accepted that harrowing fact. All she wanted was for her family to help her find letters from dogs who were scattered all over the world. They voluntary gave in to her request.
Her family gave out a notice to everyone they knew, hoping they could collect as many letters from the dogs with their pictures on the side. Even though they had no idea if the plan would work, but they hoped that any result they got would make Emma happy. Little did they know they were going to be swarmed with letters from dogs as well as pet parents all over the world.
The family was overwhelmed with all the support and messages they’ve received. A special email address and PO box were set up just for Emma and all her letters. And within days of setting them up, they were all full. To say they are grateful for all the love and pet stories that are being sent their way would be an understatement.
“Emma’s email inbox was completely full … and so was her PO box,” Emma’s family posted on her CaringBridge page. “Many pictures of puppies really made her laugh or smile. Thank you to everyone who is trying to put a smile on her face, we appreciate the gesture.”
Aside from her overflowing letters and emails, little Emma’s GoFundMe has also been flooded with various notes from strangers all across the globe. And they haven’t stopped!
From little cuties…
…to giant ones…
…to sick dogs who are struggling like Emma…
…and so many in between, it looks like the support and love is endless. It seems like Emma is going to live out her days filled with lovable pictures and stories of adorable dogs from everywhere.
And it looks like they aren’t just limited to dogs now. She’s also been getting messages from cats. And they’re even more inspired to make Emma’s day brighter!
The little, sick girl has always been an animal lover and the amount of love she’s been given back from them has made her beyond happy! Emma’s going through a tough time right now, but all the letters have been lifting up her mood every day.
“It really is moving to see so many people doing something simple and kind for Emma,” Emma’s family wrote.
