Meet Rubble. This little girl was abandoned by her owner when he moved to California. The cruel man left her outside his old house in Houston, Texas. He didn’t even leave her with food or water. She only had a small mesh kennel for shelter.

The man had bought Rubble in order to breed her. But when the 4-year-old American bulldog couldn’t get pregnant, he had no use for her. It doesn’t come as a surprise that he deserted her so easily.

When the man left, a couple of family members quickly realized that he had left Rubble behind. They tried to reach him, but he wouldn’t pick up his phone. So they asked for help in the dog-rescuing community. A woman called Alyssa Aguilar stepped in to help. She and her boyfriend wasted no time to collect the abandoned dog.

But to their dismay, Rubble was in a horrible shape. The poor pup was skinny, malnourished and had a skin condition. She was covered in scabs from itching her skin. She needed medical help.

“When I first saw her, I was in shock, then got angry,” Aguilar said. “I just wanted to hug her and make her feel better. I was very upset that she was sleeping outside with her skin looking so bad. My heart broke for her.”

Despite everything that happened to her, Rubble had nothing but love to give. “Rubble was in great spirits. She came to smell us and let us pet her,” Aguilar said. “She was such a friendly baby.”

Aguilar contacted Laura Forma from “A Chance to Bloom Dog Rescue” to take Rubble into its care. She then dropped Rubble off at the vet.

The pooch weighed just 44 pounds. According to Dr. James Barr, a board-certified vet at BluePearl Veterinary Partners, adult American bulldogs should weigh between 80 and 100 pounds.

Rubble’s skin condition was caused due to severe malnutrition and flea dermatitis. So, she was placed on a treatment plan. The dog also had an issue with her eyes. The vet suspected it was eyelid entropion, a genetic condition that makes a dog’s eyelids fold inward, and requires surgery to correct.

After Rubble’s vet check-up, she went into foster care with Alyssa Staloch. She will keep Rubble until she has gained weight and gets surgery on her eyes.

Staloch says she can’t get over how warm and loving Rubble is. The pup is also very trusting of people.

“She is a very sweet girl who just wants to love,” Staloch said. “She doesn’t crawl in your lap, but she gets as close to you as possible and rests her head on you.”

Rubble will make the perfect companion for the right family. “She is in bad shape, but we know that she deserves a second chance to shine,” Jessica Russell, founder and president of A Chance to Bloom Dog Rescue, said. “At the end of the day, every dog deserves a chance.”
