Axle the German Shepherd, a member of the canine unit for the past 9 years, has passed away at 14-years-old. The Ottawa police finally laid rest to him to the lovely creature.

With over 11 dogs in their unit, the Ottawa Sun often have German Shepherds as police dogs. According to the German Shepherd Dog Club of America, “[The first German Shepherd was a] working sheepherder, requiring no training other than direction and finish to become proficient at the task.” To them, this breed was born to be watchdogs and guardians.

“Rest easy, Axle. You were a tremendous asset to your city and you will be missed.” The Ottawa police posted on their Twitter.
