The truth can’t stay hidden forever. While these people might have believed that they would go unpunished, they were wrong.

Fortunately, there was a hidden camera recording them.

A wildlife camera has just brought justice to the family of bears in Esther Island, Alaska. Two men, father and son, were skiing in the area when they happened to spot a mother bear with her two cubs hibernating in their den.

Without provocation, they shot the mother bear. The little ones heard the loud noise and started screaming. According to the testimony from Alaska Wildlife Troopers, the men, without sympathy, proceeded to shoot the two cubs as well.

It was only after the entire family was dead that the two seemed to realize that the mother bear had a tracking collar. They appeared to be trying to cover up their sin by destroying the evidence as killing bears with cubs is illegal.

The mother’s body was packed up then and two days later, they came back to do the same thing to the children’s bodies. Both times, they skied away with the bears. Then, they lied to the authorities and reported the murder of the mother bear like it was a provoked one.

“They’ll never be able to link it to us,” the camera caught the son saying.

Just moments after the killing, the father says, “It doesn’t matter. Bear down.”

Never had they been so wrong.

“What we saw is that there were two bear cubs that were completely defenceless and were shot at point-blank range,” Assistant Attorney General Aaron Peterson, who prosecuted the case, told the court, calling the crime the “most egregious bear cub poaching case his office has ever seen.”
