Amanda Harris had seen Pippa’s picture online and had fallen for her instantly. She had then rushed to the Atlanta Humane Society to get her as quickly as possible.
Although Pippa, the seven-week-old puppy had stepped in the shelter with her mom, dad, and brother, she was the saddest. She had no hair at all on her body. She was sore and scabby. The entire dog family had mange but she was doing worst.
Pippa looked very weak but all she was really looking for was cuddles. Harris took her home and gave her all the medicine she needed. She spent time with her to help her heal. The tiny dog had a huge personality.
“She loves burrowing in blankets and cuddling more than anything in the world,” Harris said. “There were moments where I’d peek in on her and wonder where she went, only to find her comfortably nestled under all her blankets. It’s super adorable.”
Pippa loved snuggling although her skin was itchy and painful. However, Harris was there to give all the love and care to her, which worked like magic. Pappi’s skin was starting to get better within just a few days. And, within weeks, her irritated red skin had soothed, and her cream fur had started to grow.
“Her care included weekly medicated baths, medication to heal her skin and proper nutrition,” Harris said. “Once she began to get proper care, her skin started healing remarkably quickly.”
Pippa’s beautiful personality started to show as she healed and got better. Although she looked Tiny, she had the heart of a lion, like many other Chihuahuas. Her foster mom had two large dogs, one of which was an 80- pound pit bull. However, that didn’t bother Pippa at all,
“She loved chasing their tails, cuddling with them and trying to hold her own in a game of tug-o-war,” Harris said. “Also, I took her to work with me every single day in a little sling purse designed for carrying around small animals — she loved it and was always a big hit!”
People were following her journey on social media. So, she had gained some popularity, because of which, she even found her forever home. A woman named Terri Dickson and her family adopted the dog and she is already a huge part of their lives.
“When I saw the pictures of her as she first arrived, I had to go see her,” Dickson said. “Once she was in my arms, it was all over for me. Best decision I have made in a long time. She is incredible.”
After going to her new, Pippa settled in well and has even found a new playmate, another family dog. Now, thankfully, Pippa will spend all her life comfortably.
All she needs is enough snuggles.
“She loves her family and we love her!” Dickson said.
