A person noticed Sheena and Belinda hanging around their property about a year ago and immediately called for help. They both had lost a lot of furs but Sheena was more severely affected as she was completely bald except for a little hair on her face.
“A member of the public grew concerned about Sheena and a second dog — Staffordshire bull terrier Belinda — at a property in Sheffield and contacted us,” Sara Jordan, an inspector with the RSPCA, said in a press release.
Jordan was the one who responded to the call and the one who went to see them. She couldn’t believe what she was seeing. Sheena, the German Shepherd, must have a thick coat. However, she was looking barely like a dog, and it was hard to determine her breed.
The police soon sent the dogs under the care of RSPCA, and they were immediately taken to the vet.
The vet informed the RSPCA that both of the dogs had dangerous flea infestations which were the reason for their hair loss. They were underweight and overall, in poor condition. The RSPCA staff were in disbelief at someone who could let their dogs get that sick.
Jason Pearce, the dogs’ owners previously was arrested and also charged with two offences under the Animal Welfare Act. He will not be allowed to have any pets for the next ten years.
Sheena’s worst condition took months and months to get better and into her original form. She had genuine care, attention and rest before finally being a furry dog once again.
She finally looked very healthy and happy again.
Belinda has already found a loving family, whereas Sheena is still looking for one. According to the Sheffield Animal Center staffers, Sheena is a very outgoing dog who loves running around, playing and getting treats. She is s sweetheart. The best home for her would be the one where there are no kids and no other dogs. She needs a family who can keep up with her hyperactive lifestyle.
Shee finally looks like a real dog, and we hope she finds her forever home soon.
“This fantastic girl has been through so much, yet she always brings us so much joy and happiness to everyone she meets with her amazing personality,” a spokesperson with the RSPCA said in a press release.
