While travelling near their home in Brazil a couple of days ago, Italo Nascimento Fernandes and his wife happened to come across something very surprising.
They saw a giant snake, an anaconda, to be more specific, trying to cross the dangerous highway with high traffic. Fernandes couldn’t help but step in.
“We decided to stop the car and get out,” Fernandes told The Dodo. “There are no signs for the cars to wait so she can cross. I have seen snakes run over on the highway before, and think such a thing is a crime.”
Fernandes went on to gesture to the coming vehicles to stop and avoid hitting the snake. However, he was not the only one volunteering to help.
“Many people quickly appeared and also helped,” he said.

“It’s not everyone who protects animals like that. Some people prefer to see them dead,” Fernandes said. “Seeing all the people help gave a wonderful sensation.”
The snake finally made it to the other side, all thanks to these amazing people!
“She went into the woods and left,” Fernandes said. “It was beautiful.”
Biologist Flavio Terassini is very grateful to the group for their kind step. In an interview with g1 Globo, he predicted that the snake was about 10-years-old and a very lucky survivor in an area where deaths on highways aren’t rare.
“People did a good job of stopping traffic in order to stop it from being run over,” he said.
