The staffs at Unleashed Pet Rescue and Adoption, Mission, Kansas, were having a busy morning last week when they saw an unrealistically weak boxer, motionless in a bag of trash.

Rebecca Taylor, the PR manager of the rescue group, said, “Tears came right away. We were not sure if [she] … was alive. She could not lift her head.”

After that, they found another dog, boxer again, tied to a nearby pole. He was very weak and wouldn’t move his back legs. Therefore, the staffs immediately took them to the hospital. They named the female ‘Hope’ and the male ‘Triumph.’

“We had to act pretty quickly, considering the condition both of the animals were in,” Taylor said. “It was heartbreaking.”

Hope was not only weak, but she also had an infected elbow and masses on her brain and adrenal glands. Triumph also had muscle atrophy in his back legs which is suspected to be caused by being in a tiny cage for him to move around.

The rescue doesn’t know where the dogs came from, but they are very much dedicated to bringing them back to health.

“Some things cannot be explained,” Taylor said. “So we have to focus on their healing and recovery.”

Hope faced surgery and thankfully got through it, which helped the infection on her elbow. Triumph, on the other hand, has found a foster home where he will be getting physical therapy and soon regaining the strength of his back legs.

Despite having gone through so much, both dogs are determined to fight through everything.

“Some things cannot be explained,” Taylor said. “So we have to focus on their healing and recovery.”
