When passers-by found two Pit Bulls dumped in a park right outside Philadelphia, they couldn’t believe how horrible of a condition they were in. Nobody thought they would survive for long. Gracie, the one in the worse shape, was already cold to touch. The other one, Layla, was laying on her top as though to protect her.
Layla would protect Gracie with her body, not letting anyone touch her, even if someone tried to come closer to them. It was as though she was expecting torture from the human trying to help them and she was trying to protect Gracie her from it.
Thankfully, Officer Harper, who looks like a tough guy and has a shaved head and tattoos, had the ability to talk in a voice as soft as that of a 10-year-old girl. So when he tried his little-girl-voice, the dogs were bound to give in, and soon enough, Layla left Gracie and approached Officer Harper wagging her tail. However, she was still expecting to be hit so she was a little aware of his hand gestures. She enjoyed Officer Harper’s pet on her nose and head for a while and ran quickly back to her friend and laid on her again.
Officer Harper then harmlessly went closer to the dogs and put his police vest over them so that they are warm. Then, they were loaded to his car and rushed to the vet. Although he didn’t expect for a miracle, he still prayed for both of them, especially Gracie.
Gracie was so weak, she couldn’t even open her eyes. Officer Harper thought the vet would suggest euthanasia because of the pain she was going through.
The vets later confirmed that the dogs were used for dog fighting ring, on the basis of the wounds they had. They were both about 2 years old and probably had seen only cruelty and neglect their whole life.
The vet gave Gracie fluids to warm her body up and tried their best. And to their surprise, Gracie actually started improving! When Officer Harper came to visit them after a little while, Gracie stood up and greeted him by herself.
When he sat beside her, she climbed right on his lap and even ate from his hand. She had remembered him!
Although both of them are struggling to survive, they are having fun and living a good life for the past few days. The best part is, they are just not willing to move on.
Officer Harper had co-founded Justice Rescue with a friend, which is why Harper knows exactly how complex these situations can be. After being released from the vet’s both Layla and Gracie would need extensive care, rehabilitation, and behavioural training. Since Harper is specially trained for situations like these, he knows how the inner system works in digs and what operations help them.
Thanks to him., both Gracie and Layla are in a safe place and will never have to face the same torture they did before this.
