Pets worship their parents and Rex Manning is no different. The heart-melting cat loves his mommy, Emily Crane, will all his little heart. But it looks like his adoration isn’t just limited to her.
And this story proves it.
Rex is a very loving and charming cat. Crane knew that even when she first rescued him eight years ago when she saw him patiently waiting for pets and affection from other people. Even though most of the cats aren’t comfortable around strangers, Rex was the exact opposite.
“He loves attention, especially when it comes with nice, behind the ear scratches,” Crane said.
And while Crane and her friends had hoped that their love and affection would be enough to sedate the cat, it seemed like the Rex had other ideas.
“At a rather young age, he starting begging to go outside,” Crane said. “I would let him out the back door and watch from my upstairs kitchen window.”
Rex started getting more liberated with time. Crane allowed the adorable cat to stroll through the neighbourhood. And slowly, Rex started making his own friends throughout the area. Even Crane started knowing more people because her cat would stop to introduce her to them.
“I think a lot of people around here are excited to see a friendly kitty,” Crane said.
But it was only after a while that Crane discovered that Rex wasn’t just strolling through the neighbourhood.
It was when Rex returned home one day and Crane found a note attached to his collar.
“He pranced inside with it, like he knew that he had a delivery to make,” Crane said.
To say Crane was surprised to find out what was in the note. Turns out that Rex had been having more adventures than his mommy was informed about!
“Hello!” the note begins. “This is your neighbour in the red house! We just wanted to let you know that Rex has developed a weird love for our bathtub + will sneak into our home to sit in it! All of us in the house is 100% okay with this because we all love Rex very much. We just want to let you know in case you were wondering where he was one of these days … he’s probably in our bathtub. <3 The Red House.”
The note made Crane’s day.
“I seriously could not stop laughing when I found the note,” she said. “It was adorable.”
The fact that Crane hadn’t even met the neighbours didn’t stop her from sending a reply. Next time, she attached a return letter on Rex’s collar thanking the people for their generosity.
“He is definitely a character!” Crane said.
In the very close-knit neighbourhood they live in, the pet parent and her adorable cat are very happy with how well they’ve adjusted into a pattern of exploration. And it seems like the neighbourhood loves the new addition just as much.
“I love how friendly Rex is with people,” Crane said. “If they are interested, I can tell it makes their day to give a pet to a handsome, social kitty cat.”
